The type of material you choose will have a huge impact on the cost of the project. If you consider ceramic tiles that are hand painted, of course they are going to cost more than regular tile. You can get some great designs by mixing in a few accent pieces with the standard tiles. The renovation project can cost considerably less when the more common tiles.
You can choose a more expensive counter top and put it on cabinets that are the best quality versus a cheaper alternative counter top and cheap cabinets. Depending on if you are going to tile the whole bathroom or just the floor or only the shower stall it can be a much more costly project if you use a hand painted and crafted tile vs. regular ceramic tile.
When getting your estimates you should get at least 2 and more would be better. Take your time and get serveral estimates. It is a good idea to get all the estimates in writing so you have something to compare and not trying to remember what each contractor will include in the total job. A good estimate will include all material and labor costs for the project.
If you don’t have any experience or not that handy with tools then you should look at hiring a contractor because it can cost you more in the long run having to go back and fix your mstakes. It can also put undo stress on you, your spouse and your wallet.
It can be a real hassle trying to get several contractors to come out and look at your project so you might consider hiring someone to manage the whole process. This can work for some people that can afford to hire another person in the process. For others it is not feasible.
